Adapting and Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone

Who would have thought that as a global village, we will have to force ourselves out of our comfort zones and adapt to continue being effective in our profession as teachers. But quickly though, between 2013 to 2015 I was tasked by MOE Minister Bole, under the leadership of then Principal Education Officer Manoa Senikarawa, to develop websites for secondary schools around Fiji. This work culminated in the rolling out of free school websites developed on the Google Platform.

The purpose of the websites were:
  1. School Profile available globally for partner schools
  2. Lesson Notes available online for students
  3. Sharing lesson notes (Controlled by School Admin)
  4. School Activities available online
  5. School community empowered to manage their information platform
This was a low cost exercise and involved the school community and more hands on for parents, teachers and students. The program itself was flexible and adaptable regardless of geographical challenges.

Fast forward to 2020, I have developed free resources and suggested links to Openly available Educational Resources available online for educators. This work is aimed at specifically creating an equitable platform to free and affordable accessibility to teaching/learning resources, and also in the hope that users will be motivated to be adventurous and embark on your own development and creation.

The last time I posted on this blog page was in 2015, when we were in website development and OER advocacy mode. I am once again motivated to post blogs, but with the intention to discuss with like minded educators in Fiji, on how best we can support each other with information on how to adapt better transitioning from traditional, semi traditional blended learning.

I look forward to reading your responses, suggestions, requests, hello's or just a good talanoa.
Vinaka.
